Modern design is obsessed with all things simple and straightforward.
It rejects the notion that you need ornate curves, fancy embellishments, or extra filagree to make something beautiful. Straight lines are such an unnatural part of the natural world and modern design leans into it in full force. Ironically, because of this, I find it pairs very well with nature. The two juxtapose well to enhance the beauty of the other and prevent it from moving into the “brutalist” design category.
So add a couple of plants, and play with the design a bit more by adding some personalized seaside touches: Some shells you found on the beach, a vase filled with etched sea glass, or some weathered driftwood. Then snuggle up and read “A Gift from the Sea” one of my favorite books by Anne Morrow Lindbergh, wife to the famous aviator Charles Lindbergh.
