Organic

Organic by definition is having the characteristics of living plants or animals. It can be divided into two categories of organic lines/shapes and organic materials.

Organic Lines and Shapes

Shapes and lines are considered organic when they mimic the shapes and lines found in nature. It is possible for an item to be organic in shape without being organic in material. Organic lines are used in many design styles but are easily recognizable in Art Nouveau Design.

Organic Materials

Materials made from what once were living plants and animals are considered organic. Some of the more common examples are wood, leather, and wool. An item may have a geometric shape but still be made of organic material.

Repeating elements such as shapes, textures, patterns, or colors will help form a cohesive look.
